About Michele

Michele's first love was dance and movement! She was first introduced to Pilates in the early 1980's learning and teaching at Stefan Friese's Pilates Studio in Los Angeles, Ca. Continuing her love of dance she received her B.A. in Ballet from the University Of Utah. Michele kept learning and teaching Pilate's and eventually opened and owned several Pilates Studios in many different locations across Southern California. Having closed her last Pilates Studio in Oceanside, Ca. during Covid-19 in 2021, Michele now teaches a few select clients exclusively at her home studio in the San Diego neighborhood of Rancho Bernardo.

In her Pilates journey she has earned full Pilates certifications from Stott Pilates, and Body Arts & Science, Inc (BASI) with completion of the Master Teacher Trainer certification (BASI). In addition her Pilates Studios were Teacher Training Centers for BASI.

Michele's Pilates experience took a dramatic turn when she met Jennfier Kries who taught Michele the Classical Pilates Method. She has since worked with many different teacher trainers who have also followed the Classical Pilates teaching including Jay Grimes & the folks who were Vintage Pilates, Sonje Mayo, and her new mentor Darien Gold. Michele now only practices and teaches the Classical Pilates Method as developed by Joseph Pilates.

What is Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates is physical movement system originated by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates, a German citizen developed this precise regimen of movement and exercises during an internment during the first World War during his stay in British internment camps. This form of movement, later called Controlology, controlled movements as it targets all muscle groups in the body to the effect of improving core strength & posture, flexibility, and overall healthy function. It is very mindful movement with a focus on breath and control which restores health to the body and mind.
Joseph Pilates did not receive in his lifetime the wide-spread acclaim that "Pilates" enjoys today, but Joseph Pilates immigrated to the United States after the war and taught his "Controlology" in New York where dancers and others went to do "Pilates."
Since becoming a well know form of exercise many have sought to "improve" upon the original work Joseph Pilates created. Classical Pilates today is to follow the Pilates Method as Joseph Pilates originally developed and taught the work. Michele constantly is learning and training to improve on her skills and teaching but is focussed on the traditional work of Joseph Pilates.
